the best things online are FREE

the best things online are FREE

A few weeks ago someone asked me if I knew of any free alternatives to commonly used office software.  Off the top of my head I could only think of a few, so I did a little searching and found that there are several different options out there.

Microsoft Office:

  • Google Docs has spreadsheets, word processing, colanders, presentation slides, and even some simple drawing.  Also because it is hosted by Google, it means you can access it anywhere you can get online.
  • Docs.com is the love child of Facebook and Microsoft.  So not only does it have all the office goodies you want/need, but it also means sharing it with your 'friends' is very easy.
  • OpenOffice is one of the oldest and most widely used free alternatives out there, and because it is an open source project the community behind it are constantly upgrading it.
  • Think Free only allows you to create word docs, spreadsheets, and presentation slides.  So it does not offer quite as much as the other options, but it has full Microsoft Office compatibility so it is very easy to pick and run with.

These are not the only options out there, so I encourage you to do a little research and see what else you can find.
